Google Pixel 4 XL users complain of glass back peeling off

Google's Pixel flagship might be listed among some of the best android phones in the market especially their cameras and softwares, however, over the past few years their phones have always struggled with one hardware issue or another. From the Pixel 2 XL display to the Pixel 3 have all recorded long list of problems, the durability of the Pixel smartphone can be listed among its best selling points. Now it looks like the back panel of some Pixel 4 XL units are coming off.

Via reddit and Google's own support forums, a number of customers are reporting that the back panels on their Pixel 4 XL units are coming unglued, typically starting in one corner and worsening from there. It seems like the majority separate from the left side corners, but that may just be a coincidence.

While Google seems to be shipping out replacement devices to those affected, that doesn't necessarily solve things, since the refurbished phones sent out can also experience this problem. According to a Reddit comment last month from a user purporting to be the General Manager of a uBreakiFix store, the peeling is often caused by a faulty connector that causes the phone's battery to expand. They go on to say that it's a known issue behind-the-scenes.

Expanding batteries aren't new to Google smartphones, either: a not-insignificant number of Nexus 6P owners experienced this kind of failure. While it's a problem that can afflict any smartphone, a pattern of such failures isn't a good sign, and tends to lend itself to the narrative that Google's phones just aren't as well-engineered as they could be.

However, according to a response on reddit Google has assured its Pixel 4 XL users that the battery isn't the problem, although:

We’ve investigated the issue and concluded that this is not related to the Pixel battery. If you’re experiencing back glass lift on your Pixel 4/4XL, we recommend reaching out to 1:1 support to explore warranty options. We’re here to help and want to make sure your Pixel 4/4XL is operating properly.

Let's hope the problem with the Google Pixel is fixed permanently in due time.

The quality of a phone should be displayed both on the inside and outside, because the both matters for durability

The problem might not be only from the device alone. Maybe from the way the userhandles the device or otherwise. But however the problem should be fixed as soon as possible. Cause this is one of the things I don't like in phones especially one as good as this Google pixel. It would look as if the device is very old . I hope its fixed permanently.

Google hasn't committed any crime by expanding its horizon. This is just the challenge that comes with the new business. My advice to Google is that they should try their best to protect their brand name by employing capable hands to handle the job for them.

Google should work on its employers and ensure they aren't doing the packaging wrong or probably its a design glitch they have to readjust. Their brand name integrity matters.

I hope this minor problem won't make them loose customers, but they would have done some experiments whether everything is in place before launching it.

The problem might not be from the device it self but from the one handling it

The way you handle your device sometimes matters a lot it can extend the duration of time it should last or shortens it... So google may not be wrong

Google should try to use a stronger glue, maybe one with great resistance to water seeing as the damage can highly be caused by water or they can decide to use screws and change the simcard locations

It depends on the indeveure . The way u mainten ur phone, not everyone are that careful

They should actually look into the problem, though at times Many people don't even read the manual that comes with the phone.thereby doing something's outside the instructions present in the manual.

Danny112Danny112 in Jul 30, 2020 Reply

Yeah is a problem, And its so annoying, I think there show put more effort into this, cause this could put allot of interest away from new customer patronizing this product

DharmhiwealthDharmhiwealth in Jul 30, 2020 Reply

The manual that comes with a phone is to be read not to be dump. Thereby I suggest that the company should include a warning out side, so that the user will clearly see it
